Dolphins fire Sparano

The Miami Dolphins fired head coach Tony Sparano despite his team’s resurgence in the second half of the season.

Sparano’s head has been on the chopping block for some time, including this offseason when the team was rumored to want a new head coach.

Awkwardly, the Dolphins were unable to land the big names it was courting and had to back and give Sparano a vote of confidence.

The team got off to a terrible start this year thanks to a season-ending injury to the starting quarterback, Chad Henne. (Read More…)

Dolphins fall to Chargers, 26-16

The Miami Dolphins saw their struggles continue in a 26-16 loss to the San Diego Chargers.

Those struggles were compounded by a shoulder injury to quarterback Chad Henne early in the game.

Henne left the game and did not return, forcing Matt Moore into action. There is no word on how much time Henne may miss.

The team was also hurting at the running back position with rookie Daniel Thomas out, forcing them to feature Reggie Bush in the backfield. (Read More…)

Pennington hopes to play in 2011

Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington remains hopeful he will be able to play football in 2011.

Pennington is coming off of more shoulder surgery but still wants to come back and play quarterback.

Ironically, he was named starter in Week 10 and managed just a couple of plays before suffering the injury.

Some of Pennington’s desire to return has to do with Chad Henne’s struggles for much of last season. (Read More…)

Dolphins clipped by Browns, 13-10

The Miami Dolphins saw their playoff hopes take another big hit in a 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

The Dolphins turned the ball over late in the game deep in their own territory, which lead to Cleveland’s game-winning field goal.

Miami couldn’t get any type of offense generated, especially with quarterback Chad Henne turning in an erratic performance.

After getting off to a decent start, Henne finished with 174 yards passing, a touchdown and three interceptions. (Read More…)

Dolphins shut out by Bears, 16-0

The host Miami Dolphins couldn’t get anything going offensively in a 16-0 loss to the Chicago Bears.

The Dolphins were obviously handicapped offensively by being forced to start their third string quarterback.

It also didn’t help that wide receiver Brandon Marshall left the game with a hamstring injury and did not return.

Miami’s defense played pretty well but wasn’t able to pressure Jay Cutler enough to generate a lot of turnovers. (Read More…)

Dolphins roll past Titans, 29-17

The Miami Dolphins used three quarterbacks to gain a 29-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans.

Veteran quarterback Chad Pennington got the start but lasted just two plays after injuring his shoulder.

Chad Henne came on to replace Pennington and threw for 240 yards and a touchdown before being knocked out of the game.

That forced third-string quarterback Tyler Thigpen into action, and he threw for 64 yards and a touchdown. (Read More…)

Pennington to start over Henne

The Miami Dolphins have decided to bench quarterback Chad Henne in favor of veteran backup Chad Pennington.

Pennington has started for the Dolphins before and even helped lead them to the playoffs two years ago.

Head coach Tony Sparano said the move is not an indictment on Henne and that they still believe he will be a great quarterback.

He said that Henne has improved drastically over the past year and that he remains very important to the team. (Read More…)

Dolphins cruise past Bengals, 22-14

The Miami Dolphins got a big day from their kicker and defense in a 22-14 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Kicker Dan Carpenter tallied the team’s first 12 points of the game, knocking home four field goals, including a 51-yarder.

Running back Ricky Williams finished with the team’s only touchdown of the day, but it was still enough to get past Cincinnati.

If the Dolphins could find some cornerbacks and safeties that could catch, they would have put this game away early. (Read More…)

Dolphins edge Packers, 23-20

The Miami Dolphins used a balanced offensive attack to get past the Green Bay Packers in overtime, 23-20.

Quarterback Chad Henne threw for 231 yards, two touchdowns and just one interception in one of his best games of the season.

Running backs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams combined for nearly 140 yards on the ground on just 32 carries.

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall had a big day, hauling in 10 passes for a game-high 127 yards receiving. (Read More…)
